A Brief History:
Natick, founded in 1651 by missionary John Eliot, is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Eliot established it as a "Praying Indian" town, where he converted local Native Americans to Christianity. This unique beginning laid the foundation for a community that values history and cultural heritage. The Natick Historical Society and Museum offers a deep dive into the town’s past, showcasing artifacts and exhibits that chronicle its evolution over centuries.
Vibrant Downtown:
Downtown Natick is a hub of activity, featuring an array of shops, restaurants, and cultural venues. The Natick Center Cultural District is a focal point, hosting events like the Natick Farmers Market, art shows, and live music performances. The area’s walkability and the presence of local businesses give it a small-town feel with the convenience of urban living with access to the MBTA train station for quick trips to Boston, MA or Worcester, MA.
Natural Beauty:
For nature enthusiasts, Natick boasts numerous parks and outdoor spaces. Cochituate State Park is a popular destination, offering boating, fishing, and hiking opportunities. Lake Cochituate’s three interconnected ponds are perfect for water sports and picnicking. Additionally, the Town Forest and the Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary provide scenic trails for walking, bird-watching, and reconnecting with nature. As well as the newer "Rail Trail" that replaced a train line railroad track with a paved walking and biking route to enjoy.
Educational Excellence:
Natick is known for its excellent public school system, which consistently ranks among the top in the state. Natick High School offers robust academic and extracurricular programs, preparing students for higher education and beyond. The town is also home to several private schools and is in close proximity to renowned institutions like Wellesley College and Babson College.
Community and Culture:
The sense of community in Natick is palpable. Residents take pride in their town, participating in various community events and initiatives. The Natick Days festival, held annually, brings together families and friends for a day of fun, food, and entertainment. The Morse Institute Library serves as a community cornerstone, offering programs for all ages, from children’s story hours to adult education classes. As well as many other local events put on by the local schools and events groups on the common.
Shopping and Dining:
Natick is a shopper’s paradise, particularly with the presence of the Natick Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in New England. It features a mix of high-end retailers, popular chain stores, and unique boutiques. For dining, the town offers a wide range of options, from cozy cafes to gourmet restaurants. Local favorites include Buttercup, a farm-to-table restaurant, and Lola’s Italian Groceria, known for its delicious deli sandwiches and Italian specialties, as well as many other classic locations depending on what food you're in the mood for that day.
Accessibility:
Located just 20 miles west of Boston, Natick is easily accessible via major highways and public transportation. The MBTA Commuter Rail’s Framingham/Worcester Line has stops in Natick, making it convenient for commuters and visitors to travel to and from Boston. Central to all major highways such as Route 495, 90, 93, & 95. It is located centrally to all desired destinations.
